Invasive Plant of the day: Crown Vetch

It is reported invasive in CT, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, OR, TN, VA, and WI.

Ecological Impacts: Crown vetch is a serious management threat to natural areas due to its seeding ability and rapid vegetative spreading by rhizomes. This aggressive exotic is now widespread along roadsides and natural areas.

Crown vetch is from the Mediterranean region of Europe, northern Africa and southwest Asia. It was introduced to the United States in the 1950's and was primarily used for erosion control.

Crown vetch's main impact is the displacement of native plant species from their habitats. Although it can provide forage for some species, it prevents native flowers and shrubs from establishing in open areas.
